According to his party, AfD leader Tino Chrupalla left the city once more following the as yet unexplained incident at an AfD election campaign event on Wednesday in Ingolstadt, Germany.

“Tino Chrupalla has now been able to leave Ingolstadt and will receive further medical treatment,” said a press release from the AfD last night. All planned election campaign dates in Bavaria have been canceled. A new state parliament will be elected in the Free State this Sunday.

Prosecutor: No sign of attack

The 48-year-old Chrupalla was hospitalized during an AfD election campaign event in the center of Ingolstadt. According to his office, he was taken to the intensive care unit. There was also talk of a “puncture site” on the body. The police and public prosecutor spoke of a “superficial redness or swelling”.

The exact background remains unclear. The public prosecutor’s office has initiated investigations once morest unknown people on suspicion of bodily harm, but so far they say they have “no information” that Chrupalla was attacked.

The AfD initially stuck to its original statement that there had been an “assault incident”. The message that evening referred to a “physical attack”. A “stab wound” was diagnosed in the hospital. “Mr Chrupalla also suffered from severe pain and nausea.”
