Water is essential to life, it is a limiting factor for urban, industrial and agricultural development at the watershed scale, and in temperate climates the essential support for public hygiene. It is also a primary source of well-being in the city (freshness, green spaces, leisure, etc.).

Fresh water is subject to increasing anthropogenic pressure, a source of complex challenges in terms of quantity, accessibility and quality while respecting the health of human, animal and plant populations, the balance of agro-ecosystems and aquatic ecosystems and the sustainability of urban socio-ecosystems.

Thus, the current and future uses of water in the city are associated with numerous health issues, some of which are linked to new developments or new practices (rain gardens, water mirrors, swimming in the city, fountains, fight against waterproofing, double distribution networks, greening of buildings, etc.). These uses can also accentuate existing conflicts (sanitation, agriculture, town planning, energy production) or create new ones between domestic, food, recreational, cooling uses, etc.

The objective of the congress is to establish a state of knowledge from research and citizen experiences on water and health in the city by addressing several themes:

access to water and its uses, health and environmental issues related to water quality, water management tools at different scales.

This congress will mobilize speakers from different sectors, disciplines and communities of society who will endeavor to propose recommendations.
