United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres welcomed the exchange of 230 Ukrainian prisoners of war for 248 Russian prisoners of war, in the largest prisoner exchange during the nearly two-year conflict, the Secretary-General’s spokeswoman said Thursday.

The official United Nations website quoted Stephanie Tremblay, Guterres’ spokeswoman, as saying that the Secretary-General “praises the efforts of both parties and the mediation provided by the UAE, which contributed to this positive development.”
She added: “The Secretary-General hopes that this important step will be followed by additional prisoner-of-war exchanges and other de-escalation efforts.”
