The Université de Montréal Carabins won their second Vanier Cup in their history by defeating the UBC Thunderbirds on Saturday at Richardson Stadium at Queen’s University.
Montreal quickly took a 9-0 lead thanks to a touchdown from running back Iraghi Muganda following an 18-yard run in the first quarter. In difficulty at the start of the game through the air, star quarterback Jonathan Sénécal used his legs to advantage by making a seven-yard run in the third quarter to give his team a 16-6 lead.
The latter finished his followingnoon of work with 15 passes completed on 25 attempts for gains of 159 yards, also suffering an interception.
The Carabins defense was very efficient throughout the match, notably managing a sack during the second quarter. Moreover, Montreal has not allowed a single touchdown in the four playoff games.
