Niger is once more in the grip of a coup attempt. Nigerien President Mohamed Bazoum has been detained since July 26, 2023 by soldiers who announce that they have overthrown him. Mohamed Bazoum was democratically elected in April 2021. Niger’s history is punctuated by coups. Since independence in 1960, the country has already experienced four, such as in 2010 when Mamadou Tandja, democratically elected, was overthrown by soldiers led by Commander Salou Djibo.
