The United States launched raids targeting two sites linked to Iran in Syria on Sunday in response to attacks on American soldiers, according to US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.

Austin said in a statement: “US military forces carried out precise strikes today targeting facilities in eastern Syria used by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and groups linked to Iran, in response to the ongoing attacks once morest American soldiers in Iraq and Syria,” according to what was reported by Agence France-Presse.

According to the statement, the strikes targeted a training facility and a house near the cities of Al-Bukamal and Al-Mayadeen, respectively.

The statement added, “The President has no higher priority than the safety of American personnel, and he directed today’s action to make clear that the United States will defend itself, its individuals, and its interests.”

Archyde.com had quoted a US official as saying that one of the two targeted targets was a weapons storage facility, while the other target was a “command and control” facility.

The unnamed official explained that the United States is conducting a review to determine whether the two strikes caused the death or injury of any member of groups allied with Iran.
