The US military command north said that important parts might be retrieved from the sea. Among them are sensors for news gathering and electronic parts as well as large pieces of debris from the housing. The balloon was shot down off the coast of South Carolina on February 4th. The US government assumes that China is engaged in espionage. Beijing, on the other hand, speaks of a balloon for weather research purposes that went astray.

In the past few days, other flying objects had been shot down over the United States and Canada. According to the National Security Council, these were flying at such low altitudes that they posed a risk to civil air traffic. So far, nothing has been reported regarding the nature and origin of these flying objects. However, US government spokeswoman Jean-Pierre emphasized that there was no evidence of extraterrestrials.
