Memphis, Tennessee – The US Department of Justice has opened an investigation into the practices of the city and police of Memphis following the killing of African-American man Tire Nichols during a police stop. “There are suspicions that the Memphis Police Department may be taking an approach to street policing that might result in violations of federal law, including racially discriminatory stops on black people for minor violations,” the department said.
