KHARTOUM – The guided missile destroyer United States of America (US), USS Winston S Churchill, arrived at Port Sudan on Monday (1/3) for the scheduled visit.

The US warship arrived just a day after the Russian frigate entered Sudan’s port.

The arrival of the US destroyer in Sudan marks an increase in bilateral military cooperation following the thaw in diplomatic relations between the two countries.

USS Winston S Churchill is the first US Navy ship to enter Sudan in more than 25 years.

“Together with the civilian-led transitional government in Sudan, we are striving to build a partnership between our two armed forces,” said Rear Admiral Michael Baze, director of maritime headquarters, African Navy, US Sixth Fleet.
