US-Ukraine Peace Talks Held in Florida: Progress Reported

Hallandale Beach, Florida – U.S. And Ukrainian negotiators held “constructive” meetings in Florida on Saturday, aiming to advance stalled efforts to end Russia’s war in Ukraine. The discussions, focused on potential pathways toward a comprehensive peace agreement, involved high-level delegations from both countries, according to a statement released by U.S. Special envoy Steve Witkoff via X, formerly known as Twitter.

Witkoff stated that the meetings centered on reducing and resolving outstanding issues to move closer to a global peace accord. He confirmed that Jared Kushner, son-in-law of U.S. President Donald Trump, as well participated in the talks. “We welcome the continued efforts to resolve outstanding issues, recognizing their importance for global stability,” Witkoff posted. The renewed diplomatic push comes as the conflict enters its fourth year, with no immediate end in sight.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also acknowledged the ongoing discussions, stating in his daily address that a Ukrainian delegation was currently in the United States and had already held a meeting on Saturday. “The delegations will continue their discussions tomorrow. The most important thing is to understand to what extent the Russian side is ready to move towards a genuine end to the war,” Zelenskyy said, according to reports from Kyiv Post.

Ukrainian and US Delegations Meet in Florida

The Ukrainian delegation included Rustem Umerov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, and Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Presidential Office, as reported by Ukrainian media outlets like Ukrinform. The American side was represented by Witkoff and Kushner, alongside advisors from the White House and the Department of State. Discussions reportedly covered security guarantees, particularly regarding air defense, and strategies for ending the conflict, as well as potential sanctions policy.

This initiative follows previous negotiations held in Geneva in February, and represents a renewed attempt by the United States to broker a resolution to the deadliest conflict in Europe since World War II. However, progress has been hampered by the broader geopolitical landscape, including recent joint strikes by the U.S. And Israel against Iran, which have escalated tensions across the Middle East, according to reports.

Previous Talks and Current Obstacles

The meetings come after a previous round of talks in Miami in December 2025 yielded no significant breakthrough, with both Ukraine and the U.S. Expressing continued support for Kyiv, as noted by POLITICO. Russia has consistently demanded that Ukraine cede territory it has seized, a condition Kyiv has firmly rejected. U.S. President Donald Trump has been publicly urging Ukraine and Russia to reach an agreement, but the fundamental disagreements remain substantial.

Witkoff described separate talks with Russian negotiators as “productive and constructive,” stating on social media that Russia “remains fully committed to achieving peace in Ukraine” and “highly values the efforts and support of the United States to resolve the Ukrainian conflict and re-establish global security.” However, Kremlin foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov indicated that input from Ukraine and Europe had not improved the prospects for peace, as reported by Reuters.

The Ukrainian delegation may also raise the possibility of a U.S. Agreement on drone production, according to Ukrinform. President Zelenskyy noted that the meetings will also focus on preparations for future trilateral talks and discussions regarding security guarantees and reconstruction aid for Ukraine.

As the discussions continue on Sunday, the key question remains whether Russia is willing to engage in meaningful negotiations towards a genuine end to the war. The outcome of these talks will likely have significant implications for the future of Ukraine, European security, and the broader international order.
