At least 13 people were injured on Thursday morning when a passenger train derailed in New York, United States.

A Long Island Rail Road train heading for Hempstead derailed at 11:12 a.m. local time east of Jamaica Station at 175th Street and 95th Avenue in the borough of Queens, according to an official from the Metropolitan Transport Authority (MTA).

All eight cars on the train derailed, MTA CEO Janno Lieber said at a press briefing.

The injured were all shot in the legs and back, but none of them are considered to be in critical condition.

Video footage showed firefighters transferring passengers between the derailed train and a rescue train using a small platform.

“Our top priority is to ensure the safety of all passengers and railroad workers, and to ensure that rail service resumes as quickly as possible,” New York Governor Kathy Hochul said in a statement.

The causes of the derailment remain unknown.

MTA officials said service would likely remain disrupted through Friday morning.
