A major waste fire occurred on Saturday followingnoon at the Uvelia energy recovery site in Herstal, we learned from the Liège firefighters who were still on the scene at the start of the evening.
Around 20 firefighters from rescue zone 2 in Liège were called to intervene on Saturday around 4:40 p.m. on the Uvelia site, a household waste energy recovery unit, along rue du Pré Wigy in Herstal.
Waste stored at the rear of the property caught fire, for a reason yet to be determined. The fire produced significant releases of smoke visible for several kilometers.
Workers worked on the site on Saturday morning, but no one was there when the disaster broke out.
No one was hurt. No special measures had to be taken concerning local residents.
