The unusually high number of RSV infections has caused a lot of excitement in recent weeks and months. In Austria, too, numerous babies and small children had to be treated as inpatients. Basically, it is a disease of the upper respiratory tract with cold symptoms, triggered by respiratory syncytial viruses. It can be problematic for very small children, i.e. babies and toddlers up to regarding one and a half years, because pneumonia can develop from it. The narrowing of the airways makes it difficult for them to breathe and refuse to drink.
