Valle Aurina, overwhelmed by the avalanche, remains trapped in the snow but manages to call for help – Chronicle

BRUNECK. A 51-year-old woman from Vandoies survived an avalanche that had overwhelmed her in Valle Aurina, carrying her downstream for regarding 180 meters and remaining partially buried at regarding 1780 meters above sea level. The woman managed to call 911 herself.

The mountain rescue of San Giovanni and the Pelikan 2 emergency helicopter quickly arrived at the scene of the accident. Once there, fortunately, it didn’t take long to search for the wounded man: the woman’s head and her arm were sticking out of the snow. The hiker was dug up and recovered with a winch, then transported to the Brunico hospital with minor injuries.

Probably during the ascent it was she herself who caused an avalanche of wet snow. Currently the avalanche warning is grade 3.
