“Actors to Watch” list for the most promising acting talent
The twelve-year-old German actress Helena Zengel made it onto the prestigious list “Actors to Watch” for the year 2020 of the US trade journal “Variety”. Since 1998, “Variety” has chosen the most promising acting talent. Helena Zengel achieved her big breakthrough with “Systemsprenger” (2019). At the German Film Prize 2020 she was honored as the best leading actress and also received international awards. Hollywood has already noticed them.

She celebrates her international film debut with “Neues aus der Welt” at the side of Oscar winner Tom Hanks (64). The drama by Paul Greengrass (65) takes place in western America at the end of the 19th century. Five years after the end of the Civil War, veteran Jefferson Kyle Kidd (Hanks) travels from town to town as a messenger. In Texas he meets ten-year-old Johanna (Zengel) whom he is supposed to escort to her aunt and uncle against her will. An adventurous journey begins.

Maria Bakalova, who plays the daughter of Sacha Baron Cohen’s (49) character in “Borat 2”, is one of the nine other acting talents who are next to Zengel on the “Actors to Watch” list. Tiffany Boone (33) is known from the series “Little Fires Everywhere” and is featured in George Clooney’s (59) Netflix film “The Midnight Sky”, which will be released on December 23rd. Rosy McEwen causes a sensation in the Netflix series “The Alienist”, in which Daniel Brühl (42) plays one of the leading roles.
Dominique Fishback (29) has appeared in the HBO series “The Deuce” and “Show Me a Hero” as well as in the drama “The Hate U Give” (2018). Aldis Hodge, 34, will star in the superhero film “Black Ada” opposite Dwayne Johnson, 48, while colleague Jayme Lawson, 19, joins Robert Pattinson, 34, in “The Batman”.
Jonathan Majors (31), on the other hand, stars in the HBO horror series “Lovecraft Country”. Irishman Paul Mescal (24) received the first Emmy nomination of his career for his performance in the series “Normal People”. And Tom Pelphrey (38), known from the third season of the Netflix series “Ozark”, will next be seen in David Fincher’s (58) “Mank”. The drama will be available on Netflix from December 4th.
