Breaking: Hasko Weber Appointed Director of Dresden State Theater
Dresden/Berlin – The saxon state government approved Hasko Weber as the new director of the Dresden State Theater.The 62-year-old will assume the role for the 2027/28 season, succeeding Joachim Klement, who has led the house since 2017. Weber’s contract spans five years, with preparations for the 2027/28 season set to begin in January 2026.
A Dresden native, Weber is already well acquainted with the city’s cultural landscape. He previously served as senior director at the Staatsschauspiel Dresden from 1993 to 2001.From 2005 to 2013,he led Staatstheater Stuttgart as artistic director and director. He later held the positions of general director and managing director of the german National Theater weimar and the Staatskapelle Weimar until the summer of 2025. in the current 2025/26 season, he is serving as interim director of the Cottbus State Theater.
Saxony’s culture Minister Barbara Klepsch described Weber as a highly experienced director in the German-speaking realm,noting his ability to mediate and communicate across differing viewpoints while earning broad respect.
Weber himself praised Staatsschauspiel Dresden as a robust ensemble theatre.He emphasized the importance of the bond between ensemble and audience, especially amid ongoing political and social debates that shape the city’s self-image.
