The access took place on the day before Christmas. The executive arrested a three-member suspected jihadist cell in an Ottakring asylum center in Vienna. According to state security officials, the suspects belong to the so-called “Islamic State Khorasan Province”, currently the leading and most dangerous branch of the terrorist militia. The alleged group, two men and a woman, are part of a transnational network that planned coordinated attacks in Vienna, Cologne and Madrid. In Austria, St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna is said to have been a potential target.
