Vietnam confirms 2 citizens missing in fishing boat capsized in Korea

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on February 6 said that two Vietnamese people were missing in the capsizing of a fishing boat off the coast of South Korea and were taking measures to protect citizens.

According to the Vietnamese Embassy in Korea, the Korean Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced that on the night of February 4, a fishing boat sank off the coast of Sinan district, Jeonnam province, South Korea, leaving 9/12 crew members missing. , including 2 Vietnamese citizens.

On February 6, South Korea discovered four bodies of unknown nationalities. The search is still ongoing.

Immediately following receiving the information, the Vietnamese Embassy in Korea actively worked with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Korean Coast Guard on the incident.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Korea directed the Labor Management Board to request the company to send together with the relevant authorities to identify the identity of the injured crew member; contact to notify the families of two citizens in distress and guide necessary procedures.

Following the direction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vietnamese Embassy in the Republic of Korea is actively coordinating with the Korean authorities to urgently implement necessary measures to protect citizens. The embassy also said that the local authorities pay great attention to and cooperate closely with the embassy in handling issues related to Vietnamese citizens in this accident.

According to Yonhap, the fishing boat Cheongbo with 12 crew members crashed in the waters off southwestern South Korea on the evening of February 4, in which three survivors were rescued by a commercial ship near the scene.

The 24-ton fishing boat capsized in waters 16.6 km west of the uninhabited Daebichi island, regarding 20 km southwest of Sinan district, South Jeolla province.

South Korean officials deployed 30 coast guard ships and at least eight military aircraft to search around the area of ​​​​the sunken ship on the followingnoon of February 5.

South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol called on officials to mobilize “all available resources” to expand the search and support the families of the missing crew members.
