The dashcam footage shows McMahon’s Bentley accelerating and then braking abruptly, resulting in a rear-end collision with a BMW. The Bentley subsequently swerved into a guardrail before coming to a stop. No serious injuries were reported, but the crash caused damage to both vehicles and debris struck a third car traveling in the opposite direction. “Why were you driving all over 100 mph?” Detective Maxwell Robins of the Connecticut State Police asked McMahon following the crash, as captured on bodycam footage. McMahon responded, stating he was on his way to celebrate his granddaughter’s birthday. The Bentley Continental GT, which can cost upwards of $300,000, sustained significant damage in the collision.
According to police, Detective Robins was attempting to clock McMahon’s speed prior to initiating a traffic stop. Authorities clarified that the situation did not constitute a police pursuit, and there was no indication McMahon was actively attempting to evade officers, despite Detective Robins’ suggestion to the contrary in the video. “I’m trying to catch up to you and you keep taking off,” Robins is heard saying in the footage.
