Volvo Trucks Ghent Site Announces Reduction in Temporary Workforce Due to Decreased Demand in Europe: What You Need to Know

2024-03-12 19:31:34

The management of the Ghent site of Volvo Trucks once once more announced on Tuesday a reduction in temporary work within the factory. This measure will take effect from June. The move is a consequence of a drop in demand for trucks in Europe, but is not unusual for the factory, which has incorporated some flexibility into its production process.

This second reduction in production is notable, given that it quickly follows a first contraction. It concerns 200 temporary jobs, indicates management.

The previous reduction in production resulted in 250 fewer temporary contracts, out of a total of 600. The factory management does not wish to say how many temporary workers will remain in the factory following the next financial year. She emphasizes, however, that such an approach is not abnormal and that it is “a consequence of market forces”.
