Vuelta: Jay Vine splits the fog, Remco Evenepoel takes the red – rts.ch

Australian Jay Vine (Alpecin) won the 6th stage of the Vuelta solo at the top of Pico Jano. He was 15 seconds ahead of Belgian Remco Evenepoel (Quick Step), who took the race leader’s jersey.

Evenepoel blasted the peloton of favorites in this unprecedented climb. Triple outgoing winner, Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) finished in 5th place of the day, losing 1’22 on the young Belgian prodigy.

Overall, the latter takes the red jersey with a 21-second lead over Frenchman Rudy Molard (Groupama), 28” over Spaniard Enric Mas (Movistar), 3rd of the day, and 1’01 over the Slovenian .

Carapaz goes by the wayside

The Swiss Gino Mäder (Bahrain) delivered a great stage. He finished 12th, in Roglic’s time. In the general classification, the Zurich native is in 13th place at 2’03.

This first real mountain stage was daunting. It took place in difficult weather conditions, with rain and fog. Several favorites lost big, like the Ecuadorian Richard Carapaz (Ineos), 25th in the stage at 2’59.
