You most certainly know quidditch, a famous sport inspired by the world of Harry Potter. Say quadball instead, because that’s what the discipline has been officially called for a few months. In Mons, a club was also formed last October, and therefore becomes the second in Wallonia. He recruits volunteers to train every Saturday morning. It is therefore a sport in its own right that the “Monster quadball” strive to make known. Slowly but surely, the discipline is breaking away from the saga that made it known, even if this still remains a brake on finding motivation. Amaury Moulin, co-founder of the club: “there are regularly Harry Potter fans who come to try thinking they are having fun, and following a few training sessions they realize that it is a real sport and do not necessarily stay. Conversely, there are sports profiles who will not dare to start because it is part of the Harry Potter universe. The broom between the legs is supposedly ridiculous, except that it is the handicap of the sport otherwise it would be too easy.
As in Harry Potter, there are two types of action during a match: the chasers play the quaffle to score goals, and the batsmen aim their opponents with the bludgers to put them offside, like a ball. to the prisoner. Finally, it’s quite physical, and that’s what the players like. Physically and strategically, quadball is comparable to basketball according to Amaury Moulin.
But beginners are also welcome. Quadball is therefore intended to be accessible, and also particularly inclusive. It is the only contact sport in the world which is obligatorily mixed with a maximum of 4 people of the same gender per team.
Whatever your sporting profile, you will therefore be welcome among Monster quadball, who are looking to expand their group. If you’re interested, the team trains every Saturday morning on the former Jemappes football pitch.
