War in the East: Alerts are increasing on the positioning of the M23 in South Kivu

Bukavu, February 29, 2024 – Alerts are intensifying on the presence of heavily armed M23 elements in the territory of Uvira.

According to several sources, for 4 months now, the M23-RDF-AFC-coalition
Makanika erected 4 positions in the highlands of Uvira in the province of South Kivu in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, following the installation of its weapons, the arrival of troops with some in civilian clothes.

“We warn of the erection of military camps of the Rwandan army accompanied by the Twirwaneho armed group of Makanika, in the localities of Nawaranga, Gihamba, Natamira and Buronge. All these villages are in the Uvira highlands”alerted an anonymous source based in the area.

According to him, these camps are visible in Nawaranga, with at the moment more than 100 shelters inhabited by these rebels. Others camped in the village of Gihamba in hundreds of shelters.

“If the government hesitates a little, several villages in South Kivu will fall in a short time. But, if we surprise them now, we will have a step forward”pleads the source.

During a march once morest the M23 and their allies, the civil society of Congolese compatriots (SICICO) also alerted to the presence of M23-RDF hidden in the highlands of Uvira.
