War in Ukraine: UN condemns “illegal annexations” of Russia

Ukraine’s prosecutor general’s office announced on Tuesday that it had exhumed the bodies of 78 civilians in two towns in the Donetsk region, in the east of the country, recently reconquered by Ukrainian forces.

“Numerous burial sites have been found in the liberated towns of Svyatogirsk and Lyman,” he said, reporting 34 bodies exhumed in Svyatogirsk and 44 in Lyman. According to this source, some bodies exhumed in Sviatorguirsk showed marks of “violent death”, and the charred remains of two people were found in a car.

In Lyman, some 110 graves were counted and from which 44 bodies were immediately exhumed, including those of “a one-year-old child and his entire family”.

Ukraine has accused the Russian forces of numerous abuses, discovering during Russian retreats the graves of killed civilians or victims of torture or summary execution. Russia systematically denies these accusations
