According to the PRO-GE union, around 150 workers went on a warning strike at the frozen food producer Ardo Austria Frost in Groß-Enzersdorf (Lower Austria) on Monday. The strike began at 10 a.m. and will last until the end of the late shift, it was announced in a broadcast. Ardo Austria Frost produces for Iglo and supplies Hofer, Billa and Spar, among others. Around 300 farmers from Marchfeld provide raw materials such as peas, carrots and spinach.
The reason for the warning strike was the refusal of the plant and group management to negotiate an internal wage increase with the works council, according to PRO-GE. “The workers are demanding an additional net wage of 200 euros per month to cushion the massive burden of inflation.”
The employees contributed to a group profit of 78 million euros, emphasized the chairman of the workers’ works council, Dietmar Breiner, in the broadcast. “We demand serious negotiations on equal terms.” If there are still no offers to negotiate from the management on Tuesday, “the workforce will take further measures from Wednesday. A longer industrial dispute and loss of production is then possible,” announced PRO-GE state manager Patrick Slacik.
