Watch – The penalty clause is one billion euros.. Araujo, Barcelona until 2026 | Football

Barcelona has extended the contract of Uruguayan international defender Ronald Araujo until 2026, the Catalan club announced.

Barcelona set the value of the penalty clause in the Uruguayan international contract at one billion euros, a fictional amount similar to that set for its young players whose contracts were recently extended, such as Ansu Fati and Badri.

Araujo, 23, has been defending the colors of Barca since 2019 following he was tied to a contract with the “Blaugrana” until 2023, when he joined the second team in the summer of 2018 from the Uruguayan “Boston River”.

The Catalan club announced the extension of the contract through a video clip posted on its official Twitter account.

The Uruguayan has become one of the mainstays in Barcelona’s defense since Xavi assumed the duties of supervising the team last November, succeeding Dutchman Ronald Koeman.

Araujo has made 39 appearances for Barcelona this season in all competitions.
