Water connections should not be disconnected on the last working days before weekends and other public holidays. At least 10 days prior notice should be given for disconnection of water supply. The new norms also specify that connection can be reinstated in situations such as paying a quarter or half of the dues, or agreeing to settle the dues in installments within a specified period.

Water supply will be cut off under five circumstances which are non-payment of bills, late payment of bills, use of water for purposes other than those mentioned in the connection request, connections not conforming to approved standards and misuse of water to the detriment of other subscribers.

According to the provision, services should be restored within three hours for residential subscribers with smart meters and within six hours for subscribers without smart meters. Officials informed that the order issued on March 27 has been published in the gazette and has already come into force.
