The “towel movement” in Greece made international headlines a few days ago. The initiators complain that many beach bars are spreading illegally and depriving citizens of free, free access to the beaches, although there are no private beaches in Greece by law. During controls at beach bars, 16 people have now been arrested within three days. From August 4, officials carried out raids on many islands in the Ionian Sea and in the Cyclades and found numerous violations, the daily newspaper “Kathimerini” reported on Tuesday, citing police circles. Bars without any permission were also discovered.
