“There is a fire at Duferco in La Louvière“, Corinne tells us via the orange Alert us button. “We’ve been sealed off at our house by the police and the street is blocked off.“A dozen other residents of La Louvière also reported this morning to us regarding this fire in the NLMK steel company in La Louvière. Firefighters from the Hainaut-Centre area were deployed on site and were able to quickly bring the fire under control.
The fire started in a cooling tank, according to information relayed by the Future. The fire generated a large cloud of smoke which is not toxic. However, as a precautionary measure, the inhabitants of the surrounding area are invited to stay at home until this smoke dissipates.
