For as long as it has existed, it has caused heated debates in the United States: what is meant is the historic measure called Affirmative Action, which in recent decades allowed ethnic origin (“race”) to be taken into account in university admissions in order to make the student body more diverse. The measure was overturned by the Supreme Court on Thursday – of all things, at the request of a conservative lawyer supported by Asian Americans.
