Wheeling Baseball Ranked, Hosts Glenville State & Concord This Week | MEC Baseball

Wheeling, W. Va. – The Wheeling University Baseball team (17-6, 6-2) returns home this weekend for a pair of doubleheaders as they wrap up Mountain East Conference (MEC) South crossover play. Rain forced the postponement of Saturday’s games, but the Cardinals will now face Glenville State on Sunday at 1 PM, followed by a Monday matchup against Concord, also at 1 PM, at EQT Park.

Wheeling is looking to capitalize on the momentum from a successful road trip that saw them sweep both West Virginia Wesleyan and Davis & Elkins. This four-game winning streak marks the Cardinals’ first sweep in three seasons and positions them well in the conference and regional standings as the season progresses.

The Cardinals’ offense was a key factor in their recent success. In a closely contested first game against West Virginia Wesleyan, Wheeling rallied with four runs in the seventh inning to secure a 7-3 victory. They followed that with an 8-4 win, carrying that energy into their series against Davis & Elkins. There, the Cardinals quickly established control, scoring nine runs in the first three innings of a 12-3 win, and closing out the weekend with a 7-2 victory.

Brock Elliott also contributed a strong outing in game two against Davis & Elkins, allowing his first earned run of the year in 6.0 innings of perform, maintaining a 1.28 ERA through nine appearances, three as a starter.

Cardinals Ranked in Regional Poll

The Cardinals have earned a spot in the NCBWA Atlantic Regional Rankings, claiming the #10 position. This marks their first appearance in the rankings since the 2024 season, and comes after receiving votes in three of the previous four weeks. Frostburg State, also a MEC team, earned the #6 seed in the regional field. Wheeling currently shares the best overall record in the conference with Frostburg State at 17-6, and holds the second-best conference record at 6-2. The team aims to continue its climb as they appear ahead to the 2026 MEC Baseball Tournament in May.

Looking Ahead: Matchups with Glenville State and Concord

Wheeling holds a 18-14 advantage in the all-time series against Glenville State, but is looking to avenge a doubleheader sweep from last season.
