“We had no idea what he was doing there,” one of the student’s friends told the Bristol Post. “We heard someone ask us if our Gandalf would like to meet the real Gandalf. At first I thought it was a joke but when I recognized Ian McKellen. We jumped at the chance.”
An unlikely scene
Ian McKellen was actually there for a new play in which he appears. At 83, the actor continues to be particularly active on stage.
“He asked me how old I was, he wished me happy birthday and shook my hand,” says Ben Coyles. The two men then took a few photos together.
”If I had been a few meters further, this would not have happened. The planets have aligned”, rejoiced the student, delighted to meet him. “He’s a really charming, friendly and humble guy. I would like to offer him a drink.”
