When should a person with a blow to the head go to the emergency department?

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN)– Head injuries can sometimes be serious, which can cause long-term health complications, so what do you do when someone you know gets hit in the head?؟

The Saudi Ministry of Health stated, on its official website, that there are 3 types of head injuries, which are:

  • concussion: A person may experience loss or confusion in vision and balance for a short period
  • skull fracture The appearance of head injuries may be a sign of damage deeper inside the head
  • Brain contusion: Minor bleeding in the brain and may cause swelling

emergency measures

Follow the following steps:

  • Keep the patient calm and reassuring and help him to sit down
  • Put an ice pack on the injured area
  • Check the level of consciousness (eg: responding to sound, ask simple questions or give instructions, etc.)
  • Follow up with the injured to make sure that there are no signs such as bleeding
  • Seek help if the victim has symptoms, such as vomiting more than twice, drowsiness, or disturbance of speech and vision

Stay away from these things:

  • Squeeze any bleeding from injuries to the scalp
  • Touching any wound on the victim’s head to prevent infection
  • Moving the victim’s neck and waiting for medical help

Go to the emergency department in the following cases:

  • persistent vomiting
  • increased headache
  • Difficulty waking up
