Why Break Point Failed: The Lack of Big Tennis Stars Behind the Scenes

2024-03-11 14:59:00

Not enough big stars. This was one of the main criticisms leveled by fans at the making of Break Point, a behind-the-scenes series on world tennis, and probably the one that caused its undoing. Without managing to interfere in the daily lives of Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal or even Carlos Alcaraz – simply due to lack of access – Break Point did not attract an audience comparable to the successful Formula 1 series, Formula 1 : Drive to Survive, or even golf, with Full Swing.

The Times and L’Equipe announce the end of this series following only two seasons and sixteen episodes. The audiences for the second season of Break Point have not yet been communicated, but comparisons were enough to reflect the lack of enthusiasm around its content. From January to June 2023, the series attracted almost half as many subscribers as the first season of Full Swing. Concerning public reception, Break Point received a rating of 3.7/5 from AlloCiné spectators – compared to 4.4/5 for Formula 1 and 3.5/5 for Full Swing.
