The head of the Phalange Party, MP Sami Gemayel, wrote on his account on the “X” platform: “Some friends in Lebanon and abroad are wondering why a president has not been elected in Lebanon and all the initiatives leading to that have failed so far? The answer is clear.”

He added, “First, because Hezbollah undermined the principle of electing the president with all constitutional mechanisms and deadlines by disrupting the quorum and President Berri’s refusal to call for open election sessions unless he guaranteed the accession of his candidate to the presidency.”

Gemayel continued, “Secondly, because when the president is to be elected by consensus and the alignment is sharp, a compromise solution is sought. Everyone accepted the compromise solution except Hezbollah, which insists on imposing its will and only accepts consensus on its candidate. For all these reasons, all initiatives fail.”

He continued, “Suppose the presidential crisis is resolved, then we will move to the crisis of appointing a prime minister and then wait months for Hezbollah to impose the government formation.”

Gemayel concluded, “It is time for our friends to understand that Lebanon has been kidnapped and that any rescue initiative begins with the state restoring its sovereignty and the Lebanese people their free decision.”
