“It’s a chain of mountains that protect us,” said Gabriela Teisier, a journalist with extensive experience in weather studies and California’s natural resources. Teisier explained that the cyclonic bombs are formed from the north pole, disperse across Canada and move block-like from north to south of the US. Therefore, the Sierra Madre, with its chain of mountains, serve as a protective shield, so that the cold system does not reach the state. On the contrary, when a winter system arrives from Alaska, it enters through the Pacific coasts where there is no protection for the region.
