The Golden Quarter is something like the Austrian showpiece of Signa Prime, which in turn is the showpiece of Signa Holding. This umbrella company of the Signa Group, founded by René Benko, filed for bankruptcy a few weeks ago and is to be restructured under self-management. In addition to the Golden Quarter, properties such as Otto Wagner’s listed Postsparkasse in Vienna, the Viennese Hotel Park Hyatt, the Elbtower in Hamburg (but there is a construction freeze there) and the Berlin department store can be found under the umbrella of the – not insolvent – holding subsidiary Signa Prime Selection AG KaDeWe.
