Breaking: Cégep Beauce-Appalaches Condors Shine at Spring Rugby Camp – Aiming for 2025 Success
Spring Camp Highlights
More than forty players from the female rugby team at Cégep Beauce-Appalaches gathered on Sunday, June 8, for an intensive spring camp. Over four stations, they honed their skills in tackle, two against one, standing, and counter-ruck techniques, wrapped up with simulated matches. Head Coach Catharine Dallaire observed several promising elements that bode well for the 2025 season.
Preparing for the Future
“This was a fantastic opportunity for veterans to stay in top shape and assess the potential of new recruits,” said Dallaire. “We have 22 returning players and have already secured eight new recruits. Ten other players demonstrated significant potential.”
Promising Veterans and Recruits
Mia Carrier and Laurence Nicole, veterans of the club, were selected in 2024 for the Rugby Canada development camp. Furthermore, Mia and Mathilde Alexia Pelletier, a promising recruit, are part of the Rugby Quebec U18 team that will compete in the Canada Games this August.
New Recruits to Watch
Marianne Abella, a recruit from the Dragons de la Polyvalente de Saint-Georges, is another name to watch. “We will know more at the selection camp in August,” said Dallaire. “We need a strong roster to be competitive and replace any injured players.”
Looking Back to Move Forward
Last fall, the condors had a notable season with four victories and two defeats in the northeast conference of the RSEQ, scoring 180 points while conceding 116. Despite losing the final 41-12 against Notre-Dame-de-Foy, Dallaire aims to return to the ultimate series.
Expert Alex Reed Coach
Sabrina Poulin, a rugby player for Team Canada, served as a guest coach. With experience in England’s Premièreship Women’s Rugby, she emphasized the growing popularity of rugby in Beauce and the importance of nurturing young talent.
Upcoming Season
The condors will start their upcoming season against Impulses on September 7 at Cégep Garneau. Their first home game will be on September 13 at 11:00 a.m. against the Titans of Cégep Limoilou.
The Cégep Beauce-Appalaches Condors are gearing up for a standout 2025 season. With a strong roster, experienced coaching, and ambitious plans, this team promises to make a significant impact on the rugby field.
