“World Health” is monitoring a new mutation of the Corona virus that appeared in this country

Al-Marsad newspaper – SPA: The World Health Organization confirmed that it is monitoring a new mutation of the Corona virus strain that appeared in southern France.

The organization’s events official, Dr. Abdi Mahmoud, said in a press statement in Geneva: The new mutant has moved to several European countries, and the scientific and technical expert team is following up on the data received regarding it, and more time is needed to understand it.

He added that the world is witnessing a record jump in the rates of infection with the “omicron” mutant, as it is increasing at unprecedented rates, and that 128 countries have reported infections with “omicron”, and it is expected that the mutant will be present in other countries that have not reported it; Due to the lack of technical and laboratory capabilities to detect it.

He referred to what he described as the good news, which is that “Omicron” affects the upper part of the respiratory system, and does not cause lung damage like the mutant that preceded it. Nevertheless, it is necessary to wait several weeks before drawing the final results, stressing the importance of receiving vaccines; Because it provides protection for people from all mutants, and avoids severe injuries, going to hospitals, and also death.

And he called for the necessity of adhering to the 14-day quarantine period recommended by the organization for Corona patients to not transmit infection, as before the expiration of this period the virus can be transmitted to contacts.
