The head of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said on Monday that the health supplies that entered Gaza constitute only a “drop in the bucket” of the required needs.

The head of the World Health Organization added, “The organization continues to demand a ceasefire in Gaza.”

According to earlier, Adhanom Ghebreyesus called for a ceasefire in Gaza and a “real solution” to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in an emotional appeal to the Executive Council of the United Nations organization in which he described the conditions in Gaza as “hellish.”

Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on February 1 that the risk of famine in the Gaza Strip is escalating due to the continuation of the war.

Earlier, the head of the organization warned that stopping funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) would have “catastrophic consequences” for the residents of the Gaza Strip, which was devastated by the war.

“No other entity has the capacity to provide the scale and scope of assistance that the 2.2 million people in Gaza urgently need,” he said in a press conference.

He added: “We call for a reconsideration of these announcements,” referring to the decisions taken by several countries to suspend funding provided to UNRWA following accusations that some of its employees participated in the attack on Israel on October 7.
