X (Twitter) Down: Outage Map & Latest Updates – Czech Republic Affected

by Sophie Lin - Technology Editor

Users worldwide are experiencing widespread disruptions with X, formerly known as Twitter, marking the second significant outage for the platform in a single day. Reports of issues began surfacing around 2:00 PM local time, quickly escalating to over 40,000 user complaints reported to outage monitoring website DownDetector before 3:00 PM, according to Novinky.cz. The majority of reported problems center around the mobile application, with a substantial portion of users unable to load posts even when connected to the network.

The disruptions aren’t limited to mobile users. Approximately 25% of those reporting issues could connect to X but were unable to view posts, whereas roughly one in six users experienced problems with the web version of the platform. While a brief respite appeared to occur around 5:00 PM, the network again experienced a collapse shortly before 7:00 PM, with reports to DownDetector surging from near zero back into the tens of thousands. The repeated outages raise concerns about the stability of the platform and its underlying infrastructure.

The problems are not isolated to specific regions. Hundreds of reports have been logged in the Czech Republic, mirroring issues experienced globally. One user, identified as Ondřej H., told Novinky.cz, “It just keeps spinning, but no posts load.” The cause of these recurring outages remains unclear, and X has yet to issue an official statement.

Recent Outage History

This latest incident is not an isolated event. X has experienced an increasing number of outages in recent months. Within the past month alone, the platform has been affected by two major disruptions impacting users worldwide. In previous instances, the company has not disclosed whether these outages were the result of cyberattacks or technical issues.

Adding to the complexity, Elon Musk, owner of X, has publicly attributed the current disruptions to a “massive” cyberattack targeting the platform. According to Total Security, Musk suggested potential links to Ukrainian IP addresses, though he acknowledged uncertainty about the exact nature of the attack. The claim has not been independently verified. The hacking group Dark Storm has claimed responsibility, but Musk has not yet confirmed this assertion.

Downdetector Reports and Monitoring

Downdetector, a website that monitors the availability of various internet services, has been instrumental in tracking the scale and scope of the X outages. Founded in 2012, Downdetector relies on user-submitted reports and data from social media, including X itself, to provide real-time information on service disruptions. According to Wikipedia, the site was acquired by Ookla, the company behind Speedtest.net, in August 2018 and currently operates in 45 countries.

The frequency of these outages is prompting questions about the platform’s resilience and security. Musk stated on X, “They are attacking us every day, but this was done with a lot of resources.” He further suggested the involvement of a large, coordinated group or even a nation-state.

What’s Next?

As of this writing, X remains unstable for many users. The lack of official communication from the company is fueling speculation and frustration. The immediate priority for X will be restoring full service and identifying the root cause of these repeated failures. Whether the outages are due to technical issues, a sustained cyberattack, or a combination of factors remains to be seen. Users can continue to monitor the situation through platforms like DownDetector and await further updates from X.
