Kitchen appliances in the smart home are usually from the “nice but not really necessary” category. What use is a coffee machine that can be controlled remotely via an app if you have to refill the coffee and water yourself? Then there are smart water bottles that monitor not only the temperature but also the amount you drink, or an app-controlled rice cooker that reports the cooking status via push notification. But none of the devices are really practical: If you’re already handling coffee, water or rice, you can press the button yourself and turn the device on. After all, you’re already standing in front of it anyway, and the app control degenerates into a rarely used gimmick.
