The press service of the service informed Autonews.ru regarding the improvement of the Yandex Maps application for more accurate calculation of geolocation in the center of Moscow. According to the company, location glitches now have less impact on navigation.

As the press service clarified, on September 13, 2023, a new fix will be released in Yandex Maps and Navigator, which will be relevant to professional drivers and everyone who spends a lot of time behind the wheel.

To make it work, you need to take a few steps:

— enter developer mode in the smartphone settings and disable Wi-Fi request restriction;

— update the application to the latest version;

— turn on Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

Typically, limiting Wi-Fi requests is enabled by default for users. Because of this, the smartphone scans access points no more than twice a minute. If you disable this restriction, the device will scan them every 2-3 seconds.

Yandex Maps and Navigator are already able to read the user’s geolocation using the nearest Wi-Fi access points – this helps with GPS failures in the center of Moscow. And the new setting will help further improve the accuracy of car navigation.

The fix only works on smartphones with Android 10 and higher, except for Huawei and Honor devices.

Starting in the spring of 2023, motorists in Moscow began to regularly encounter problems with the operation of the GPS system in their navigators. Applications no longer determine the exact position of cars in the center of Moscow. In particular, motorists who use navigation applications, as well as taxi drivers and passengers calling them, experience problems with determining geopositioning.
