Breaking News: Montreal Youth in Control of Their Future
Montreal’s Next Generation: The Game-Changers
In the heart of transformation, Montreal stands poised to become a beacon of change, with its youth prepared to spearhead a fairer, more equitable economy while addressing critical climate and socio-ecological challenges. But is the city truly ready to grant these young visionaries a seat at the decision-making table?
Navigating a Turbulent Environment
Montreal’s next generation finds itself in a period of profound turbulence, grappling with international conflicts, economic instability, climate crises, and mental health concerns. Coupled with the stark reality of financial precariousness, young professionals struggle to find stability and confidence for the future.
“When more than 30% of income is devoted to housing, this limits any savings capacity,” tragically summarizes Sarah Kemerer, Managing Director of the Montreal Chamber of Commerce (JCCM). “Caught in the urgency of daily life, young professionals struggle to project themselves. However, they already stress for their retirement because they don’t see the possibilities.”
Empowering the Unseen Voices
In this climate of adversity, Montreal’s youth is paradoxically more mobilized than ever. Yet, their voices in the public sphere remain often unheard. Structural obstacles, such as limited access to decision-making spaces, require significant networks, seniority, and financial resources.
Sarah continues, “Expertise is still too often associated with age.” This subtle barrier of perception must be dismantled to acknowledge the credibility and capabilities of young leaders.
The Emergence of a New Paradigm
The new generation of business leaders exemplifies their commitment through action. They have developed business models where profitability is aligned with social and environmental responsibility, redefining the leadership codes at the workplace.
They advocate for more human, flexible, and inclusive corporate cultures that prioritize diversity and collaboration. “These young entrepreneurs embody intrapreneurship and change from within structures and organizations,” said Sarah.
The Imperative to Act
Youth is no longer content to wait; they are acting and redefining the rules with rigor and impact. It’s high time to give them a more prominent space in decisions, directions, and discussions, because the future we need will only be born from the boldness and ambitions of today’s young leaders.
Triggering the Potential of the Next Generation
The JCCM is committed to equipping the next generation by offering networking events, conferences, workshops, training, mentoring programs, and competitive platforms such as the ARISTA business competition. This vision drives the organization to spotlight young Montreal professionals, contributing to a more inclusive business ecosystem.
The JCCM’s efforts have borne fruit, boasting an impressive 2,660 active members and engaging over 1,600 participants annually in its wide array of activities.
