As monkeypox spreads worldwide, orders for the vaccine are flooding with a Danish pharmaceutical company, the only vaccine maker.

Experts including the World Health Organization are saying that there is no need for a large-scale vaccination like Corona 19 in the case of monkeypox, but countries around the world are rushing to secure a vaccine as a preventive measure.

This is a report by Lee Dong-heon, a reporter.

Spain, which has the second most cases of monkeypox in Europe after the UK, announced plans to purchase a vaccine this week.

Earlier, Germany also ordered 40,000 doses of the vaccine.

All vaccines are from Danish bio company ‘Bavarian Nordic’.

Although licensed as a smallpox vaccine in Europe, it is the only vaccine to be approved for use against monkeypox in the United States in 2019.

As orders flooded due to the sudden spread of monkey pox, the company plans to respond with stock and, if demand continues, reduce production of other vaccines and increase production of raw pox vaccine.

However, the possibility of mass inoculation of vaccines such as COVID-19 is not considered.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), vaccination within 4 days of exposure to monkeypox virus can prevent infection, and vaccination within 14 days of exposure can relieve symptoms.

The UK has been providing the vaccine to health care workers and close contacts since last week.
