[국제]At least 100 US hurricane fatalities… “worst damage ever”

[앵커]

Hurricane Ian, which swept the southeastern United States, starting with Florida last week, is now extinct, but has done a lot of damage.

With more than 100 deaths in Florida alone and more than 600,000 homes still experiencing power outages, recovery is expected to take at least several months.

This is reporter Kang Tae-wook.

Fort Myer, Florida, was hit by a direct hit as Ian landed.

At one gas station, a column broke and the roof collapsed.

The car parked in front of the house is still covered with trees.

Homes and shops on the beach are in particularly bad condition.

There is no water or electricity, so restoration is impossible right now.

Numerous houses have been destroyed, but the exact size is not yet known.

That’s because flooded areas, such as central Florida, still remain.

However, CNN reported that the death toll exceeded 100 in Florida alone.

He added that at one time 2.6 million households had electricity cut off, but restoration work is underway and it is now down to less than 1 million households, he added.

[론 드센티스 / 미 플로리다 주지사 : 현재 주 전체에서 95%의 고객에게 전력이 공급되고 있습니다. 공급되지 않는 비율은 5%에 불과합니다.]

President Biden said the damage to Florida would be the worst in American history.

In addition, we will personally visit the site on the 5th local time to check the damage situation and determine the federal government’s support.
