Unpacked, held on July 26, two weeks earlier than usual

[서울파이낸스 이서영 기자] Samsung Electronics’ decision to proceed with the unpacking of a new foldable phone on the 26th, two weeks earlier than in previous years, is interpreted as an attempt to advance performance improvement in the second half.
Samsung Electronics’ operating profit plunged 95.5% in the first quarter compared to the same period last year due to the sluggish semiconductor division, and it was tentatively estimated that it would drop 95.7% in the second quarter. At least, it is analyzed that the MX (mobile experience) division recorded good performance, partially offsetting the sluggish performance of Samsung Electronics as a whole.
The MX division made an operating profit of 4 trillion won in the first quarter thanks to the strong sales of the Galaxy S23 series, which was released in February.
In response, the new flagship foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5, are ‘early on the market’ in July to create a new effect.
Rival Apple is expected to unveil a new smartphone in September.
Samsung Electronics and mobile carriers are said to start accepting pre-orders for the Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 on August 1.
According to Taiwanese market research firm TrendForce, global foldable phone shipments this year are expected to reach 19.8 million units, up 55% from the previous year.
Samsung Electronics decided to hold Unpacked in Korea first, and while holding it at COEX, it plans to broadcast the event live on a screen installed on the outdoor stage of Seoul Plaza to introduce new products to citizens and foreign tourists. At Seoul Plaza, a special live performance by popular singers will also be held for about 20 minutes prior to the main Unpacked event.
