[사회]’Moon Orbiter’ Danuri begins entering lunar orbit 135 days after launch

The Korea Aerospace Research Institute announced that Korea’s first lunar orbiter ‘Danuri’ (KPLO) had sailed a cumulative 5.94 million kilometers in space and started entering lunar orbit early this morning.

It has been 135 days since it was launched in the United States on August 5 with a SpaceX Falcon 9 launch vehicle.

However, whether or not the first entry operation was successful will be announced on the 19th by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Aerospace Research Institute after detailed data analysis.

According to Korea Aerospace Research Institute, Danuri performed the first lunar mission orbital maneuver to enter the lunar mission orbit around 2:45 am today.

Hangwooyeon explained that this entry maneuver was a process of reducing the speed so that Danuri could be stably captured by the moon’s gravity and orbited without passing by the moon.

Danuri’s second entry maneuver will be held on the 21st.
