Zinc oxide is a chemical compound with the formula “ZnO”. It is almost insoluble in water, but soluble in acids and alkalis. It forms white hexagonal crystals or a white powder commonly called “white zinc” or “zinc white”. It is also used with eugenol (eugenol (also called 4-allyl-2-methoxyphenol, crude formula…) in the formation of eugenate.

Zinc oxide is found in nature in the form of the mineral (A mineral is a normally inorganic, more rarely organic, substance formed… ) zincite. Crystalline zinc oxide has a piezoelectric effect and is thermochromic, changing from white to yellow when heated.

We use it to make surge protectors.
