At least two people were killed and more than 15 others injured when a massive fire broke out in a multi-storey apartment building in India’s financial capital, Mumbai, on Saturday, authorities said.
Dozens of fire engines rushed to put out the flames and rescued hundreds of residents from the 20-storey building in downtown Mumbai.
Footage from the site showed a thick column of smoke rising from the eighteenth floor of the building.
“The fire has been put out and people have been rescued,” said Kishori Bednekar, the city’s mayor, adding that the cause of the fire was not yet known.
